Leon Barmore, who coached the Louisiana Tech University women's basketball team to national prominence, has endorsed the concept of the Journal of Sport Administration and Supervision.
“I’ve read each word of the journal’s introductory document and was impressed with what its founders are trying to do,” Barmore said.
“The project has my blessing.”
Barmore, who spent his entire playing and coaching career at Louisiana Tech served as the Lady Techsters’ head coach from 1985 to 2002. Upon his retirement, the .869 winning percentage he had accumulated was the best in women's basketball history.
Barmore led Tech to 20 straight winning seasons, including a 13 seasons with 30 or more wins. He coached the Lady Techsters to 20 straight NCAA Tournaments, nine Final Fours, five national championship games and national titles in 1981, 1982, and 1988.
In 2000-01, he became the first coach in Division I college basketball history to record 30 or more wins for six straight seasons.
His teams dominated the American South, Sun Belt, and Western Athletic Conferences with 13 regular season titles in 15 years, producing four Olympians, 12 Kodak All-Americans, 14 players who were selected in the WNBA Draft, and 37 first team all-conference selections.
During Barmore’s tenure, the Techsters spent 179 straight weeks ranked in the AP Top 25.
In 2003, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame alongside NBA legends Robert Parrish and James Worthy, iconic announcer Chick Hearn, and famed Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon.
