Editor's Welcome:

Welcome to the Journal of Sport Administration & Supervision!

back to back

We are excited to introduce this journal as a unique outlet for publishing and disseminating research in the field of sport management.

Henry Kissinger, one of my all-time favorite American statesmen, once said, “Most politicians leave office with the same perceptions with which they entered. They know how to make decisions, but not what decisions to make.”

In my opinion, Kissinger’s quote might just have easily been about managers instead of politicians. The nature of decision-making has never been more acute in discipline of management as a whole and the field of sport management in particular than in today’s marketplace.

However, managers can’t be expected to make sound decisions without solid information with applicability that is presented to them in a useful format.

In his classic work The Elements of Social Scientific Thinking (1976), Kenneth R. Hoover said:

Knowledge is socially powerful only if it is knowledge that can be put to use. Social knowledge, if it is to be useful, must be both transmissible and valid. In order to be transmissible, knowledge must be in clear form. And if the knowledge is intended to be used as a spur to action, it must be convincing enough to create an impulse to action in the audience (p. 7).

Coupling the philosophies of Kissinger and Hoover will give you the reason why we founded JSAS as a vehicle for the advancement of knowledge in the field of sport management: it’s time to put valid, transmissible knowledge in the hands of those who need it most—practitioners in sport organizations and properties.

We invite you to examine the contents of this website and warmly invite you to be part of our efforts in this endeavor.

Sincerely,
